AAHPM Spring Quarterly : Page 11SPRING 2012 11 Osteopathic Physician Preparation for 2013 The final Certification of Added Qualifications (CAQ) Examination in hospice and palliative medicine offered by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists will take place in fall 2013. Candidates who have obtained general certification from any of the primary boards and who meet the eligibility requirements established by the AOA will be allowed to sit for the examination until fall 2013. After that time, only candidates from the four cosponsoring boards of Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Neurology and Psychiatry, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation will be allowed to sit for the examination. Registration dates were not available at press time. AAHPM encourages osteopathic physicians to attend the 2012 Intensive Board Review Course or purchase the recording of this year’s course, which will be available in fall 2012 in preparation for the 2013 CAQ examination. AAHPM and the Board Exam AAHPM has no direct role or input into the development of the exam. The Academy follows the model for all board exams in medicine whereby the certification board is separate from the membership organization to preserve the integrity of the exam. AAHPM, as the membership organization, develops test preparation courses and products without any inside knowledge about the exam questions. The Academy relies on published material about the exam (such as the content outline) to develop its products. AAHPM also communicates updates regarding the certification exam as a service to its members.
