Dustin C. Jones, an attorney for Ridenour, Hienton & Lewis, PLLC, knows from firsthand experience that, while America has made great strides toward diversity and acceptance, there is still work to be done. “On the whole, I have had good experiences in my years; however, there is still much to be achieved in the legal community with respect to welcoming and promoting diversity and inclusion,” he said. He decided he wanted to be an attorney in high school and hasn’t let anything stop him, not even lingering prejudices in the career field. Jones has been adept at navigating the challenging world of practicing law, by taking charge of his own career and his own life. He said nothing would stop him from pursuing his dreams. “You must take responsibility for and manage your career,” he said. “Always believe in yourself and in your abilities, even when others do not. Law firms aren’t places where you will be nurtured and coddled. You must be both a team player and a free agent at the same time.” From the beginning, his legal career has been a success. His dedication to staying true to himself and rising above his peers has paid off and gained him recognition. Jones practices in land use and zoning law and represents real estate developers in their negotiations and approval processes within various municipalities around the metro Phoenix area, often appearing in public hearings before planning commissions, development boards and city councils. He recently accepted an offer to join the distinguished Ivy League faculty at Cornell University in New York as a senior lecturer in the department of city and regional planning and the associate director for the Baker Program in Real Estate. He also recently accepted an appointment by state of Arizona Gov. Janice K. Brewer to serve a five-year term on the advisory board of the Arizona Department of Real Estate. He has received numerous awards and promotions over the years. He was voted one of the 2013 Most Admired Leaders from the Phoenix Business Journal. He was also inducted into the publication’s elite 40 under 40 club and was named one of the Valley’s 24 Movers and Shakers by the Arizona Republic. Throughout his career, he has been privileged to work in some of the premier law firms in Arizona. In fact, he has been voted in as a partner in one of the largest law firms in Arizona. While he is making his name known, Jones is also a proud father of four children, whom he raises with his wife, Veronica. “There’s never enough time to get it all done,” he said. “All one can do is manage expectations and do your best.”
