The Summer Academy Meeting 2015 will feature some new and exciting sessions you do not want to miss! RISK ASSESSMENT PROGRAM TO IMPROVE AND DOCUMENT (RAPID) CARE: The AAD is offering a Quality Improvement (QI) Activity. A Quality Improvement (QI) Program Targeting Risk Factor Reduction in Psoriasis. This session is approved by the American Board of Dermatology for Component 4, Evaluation of Performance in Practice, of Maintenance of Certification. This educational session will provide an overview on the quality improvement process as well as discussion regarding the appropriate history taking of the lifestyle behaviors of patients with psoriasis. HANDS ON: DERMAL FILLERS The AAD will offer two procedural workshops on Dermal Filler Injections on Saturday. They offer small group, hands-on experience practicing injection techniques. Participants will be instructed on how to inject at various levels, including intradermal, subdermal, and supraperiosteal locations. Approaches to patient assessment, including treatment planning, filler selection, and anatomical considerations to optimize cosmetic outcomes will be covered. Anatomy as it relates to safe injection technique will be stressed. High-fidelity cutaneous surgical training models that allow for realistic hands-on practice will be utilized. Attendance is limited to 50 people per workshop. HANDS ON: THE STANDARDIZED PATIENT The AAD will offer three communication workshops utilizing standardized patients on the following topics: Medication Management, Dealing with a Difficult Patient and Breaking Bad News. Registrants will meet with standardized patients trained on these real life scenarios in a simulated office. The physician will walk through the patient visit and at the conclusion of the exercise, the standardize patient will provide the registrant feedback, using checklists, on the patient encounter. The workshops occur simultaneously, are limited to one registrant per 30 minute workshop, and as such are repeated several times on Thursday and Friday to allow for maximum attendance.
