Our mission is to serve patients, which grounds our philosophy for giving In Partnership In each issue, Aspire looks at how a member of the corporate community is helping to advance and promote the mission of healthy skin, healthy lives. In this issue, we report on the Academy’s long-time partnership with Amgen. With the expansion of programs and services to meet the needs of AAD members and their patients, the Academy looks to its industry partners to help support the advancement of the specialty. One of the Academy’s longest and most generous corporate partners has been Amgen. For more than 14 years, the biopharmaceutical company has extended its arm by partnering with the AAD through a number of different ways. Amgen has been one of the top supporters of the Academy’s Annual and Summer Meetings, helping the Academy provide the best possible learning experience for its members. Their support has included sponsorship of the President’s Gala for the past two years, as well as the Residents’ Reception and resident programs, the Mingle Zone, and much more. The support has helped keep the connection between industry and the Academy strong and demonstrates a clear commitment to the AAD, the specialty and its patients Chris Lindsay, PharmD, director of professional relations at Amgen, has been an integral part of the Academy’s connection with Amgen, and talked with Aspire about the company’s goals in partnering with the Academy. “Our mission is to serve patients, which grounds our philosophy for giving,” Lindsay said. “If the end result is supporting patients through patient care or direct support, then that is a great cause. When Amgen enters into a therapeutic space, we look for ways to support and serve patients who are affected by the disease. The dermatology community, as a result, is a natural fi t with our therapeutic areas of interest and long-term commitment in this area.” Lindsay said the AAD’s Annual and Summer meetings provide forums for educating dermatologists to better care for their patients and provides a great opportunity for Amgen to engage with the leading clinicians and researchers in the fi eld. Lindsay also called residents and fellows “the future of dermatology.” “We would not be serving the community if we did not step up and do our part to support them in various ways.” “I fi nd the Academy to be a warm and generous group of individuals,” Lindsay said. “The leadership is truly appreciative of the support given by the industry. The thank-yous are generous and heartfelt. The most gratifying moments have been the personal conversations I’ve had with leadership who don’t even work in the areas our company supports, and yet want to get to know not just the company, but the individuals who work there.”
