The AAD’s Good Skin Knowledge (GSK) video contest took viewers all over the map, and the first place prize went to the video “Dontcha Know” created by the YMCA of Middle Tennessee, Camp Widjiwagan (near Nashville). The contest prize money made it possible to erect a large shade structure this year over Camp Widjiwagan’s “Kangaroo Jumper,” a popular attraction for kids. Due to the lack of sun protection, kids often got overheated and burned their feet. Some kids would even wear two pairs of socks to be able to go on it in the middle of hot Nashville summers. Now, they play freely in the shade. The Academy’s GSK funding has made a huge impact on kids across the country. Camp Widjiwagan sees on average 700 kids per week during the summer months, and they all received education about sun safety this year in conjunction with GSK shade and lesson plans.
